In Monica's absence Reno recapped the “Join or Die” Movie event on 4/10: 1 person (Jeff) visited the club today, and 3 others expressed an interest in membership. The message of the movie seemed to resonated with attendees, and the professor as moderator after the screening was effective. Reno estimated that 50-60 people attended, including several non-profit organizations. (For those who could not attend the screening, the movie is available on Netflix until the end of the month.) Thank you to Monica for being the heart and soul of this project. Well done!!
Laura asked Steve to contact Hailey Day this week to explore the possibility of putting our Fruit Sale on the web and include a point of sale payment capability. Stay tuned!
Callie reports that an Everleigh Companion Club Organizing Meeting is set for May 27 at 3pm @ Everleigh 50+ Community– She& Steve signed up 10 residents at their WineDown Wesnesday last month. She has invited ADG Skip Arms to help with the presentation on 5/27.
Bill reminds members that club dues are due. If you haven't yet, please pay.
A $50 donation to Roddy’s Pantry at MSU was agreed upon.
We are still looking for a speaker for the May 26th meeting.

Tom Mauser
Colorado Ceasefire
Tom introduced Tom Mauser with CeaseFire Colorado and author of "Walking In Daniel's Shoes".
Fifteen year old Daniel was an 'A' student, a Scout, and ran track at Columbine High School. The shooters killed 12 of their fellow students that day at Columbine.
His Dad wears Daniel's shoes where ever he speaks, as he did today.
Tom joined us to talk about Colorado Ceasefire: The organization is "not anti-gun, but anti-gun violence". They are working to reduce death by gun: accidents, murders and suicides. He explained his efforts to legislate and implement the Red Flag Law in the state. Tom defined the Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) as a civil order that may be issued when a person poses a significant risk of causing personal injury to self or others by having a firearm. It allows a limited group of people to ask the court to temporarily remove and prohibit access to firearms. Behaviors that indicate an ERPO may be needed for an individual: statements of self-harm, threats to harm others, unsafe with a firearm. Family members, law enforcement, community professionals - mental health, school officials, etc. can file ERPO's.
The temporary order is valid for 14 days; if required, a full-year ERPO can be ordered. From 2020 to '23, 535 ERPO's have been filed in 46 of Colorado's 64 counties. In the first year of implementation, there were only 4 cases of ERPO misuse and none resulted in a filing.
