Monica gave us a final update before Friday's "Join Or Die" Movie Night with the MCA, at The Cube, 8371 East Northfield. Members please arrive at 6pm, Table sponsors at 6:15, and doors open at 6:30. Laura will distribute materials and talk about Rotary to visitors to our table. MCA is not charging us for the venue, and allowing the club to keep tickets sales and the concession! Plus, we have 4 table sponsors. Way to go Monica!!
Barbara gave us an update on RYLA and Young RYLA for this summer. She has interviewed many students and has selected one for each program. Our Young student is a girl interested in Aerospace Engineering and our Senior student is a girl interested in architecture. Barbara says both are outgoing young women and will represent our club well.
Barbara also discussed this summer's fruit sale and reminded us that it's not too early to start planning. Steve recommended that we consider setting up an online ordering and payment method this year similar to what other clubs have been doing. Steve will contact Hailey Day to discuss giving the fruit sale an online presence. Payment methods were discussed: Stripe was one suggestion.
Steve recapped this year's March Madness Pick'em Tournament. There were 21 brackets in our tournament and the pot was $420. After the 50/50 club split there remained $210 for prizes. This year, Jeff Wise came in 1st and won $140. Tim Rawlsky came in 2nd and won $70. Thanks to everyone who played and helped the club raise $210 this year.
Bill reported Return On Rotary. Since July 1, we have contributed $5,288 and we have worked 338.1 hours.
Callie has been in communication with Vitalant regarding a donation day. It was agreed that May 5th, from 9-1 will be the date for the drive. Details to follow.
Callie is also working to coordinate an organizing meeting with interested Everleigh residents regarding a Companion Club. May 27th at 3pm is on the schedule.
Monica announced to members that Food Bank of the Rockies is holding their "! Million Meal" event on April 17. Information can be found at foodbankrockies.org/.

The two joined us today to propose that listening better helps us lead better. Listening helps to unpack change resistance, discover customer needs, understand your market, improve sales conversations and uncover hidden issues. Remember LAVA: Listening, Acknowledging, Validating, Asking questions: this acronym can help our listening skills. 
Cristina and Alex explained that there are 3 types of listening:
SUBJECTIVE-
  • Guided by the listener’s focus, rather than the speaker
    • Relates to the listener’s experiences
    • Common in everyday communication
    • Waiting to reply rather than listening
OBJECTIVE-
  • Oriented towards the speaker, rather than the listener
  • Creates space for speaker to feel heard
  • Stays on topic, generally more at surface level
  • Listening to reply
DEEP-
  • Focuses on the words and the energy of the speaker
  • Creates space
  • Can be thought of as “listening between the lines”
  • Listening to understand
